Our Mission
To equip conscious apparel design professionals with the resources, community, and practical tools they need to advance their careers, build sustainable businesses, and contribute to a more ethical industry.
Our Why
ifd was founded in 2017 by Britta Cabanos, a fashion designer with over 30 years of industry experience, including senior design leadership at Nike Swim, Oakley, and Perry Ellis International, and a decade co-leading Creative Capital Design, a Portland-based performance and lifestyle apparel consultancy serving clients including Icebreaker and Stanley.
Britta also serves as Creative Director for Threads of Impact, an NYC fashion show and fundraiser benefiting sustainable design initiatives produced in partnership with The Sustainability Laboratory.
ifd exists because she knows firsthand what's missing for independent designers and industry professionals who do things differently — and has built the community, curriculum, and resources she wished she'd had.
