A Guide for Mid-Career Professionals & Emerging Designers A Guide for Mid-Career Professionals & Emerging Designers Welcome! You're in the right place if you're a mid-career fashion professional or an emerging designer looking to pivot into sustainable and ethical fashion. The fashion industry is evolving rapidly—no longer driven solely by speed and trend but by intention, responsibility, and purpose. Whether you've worked in mass production or fast fashion or are just starting your journey, your skills and experiences are not just needed; they are crucial now more than ever. Conscious design isn't about starting over—it's about realigning your expertise with values that drive positive change. Here's how to begin: Journaling Step 1: What is your main goal? Develop a Transition Plan Before you take the leap, take a moment to reflect. Why do you want to move into sustainable fashion? Is it because of your personal values? A desire to reduce harm and create impact? Are you seeking creative fulfillment beyond fleeting trends? Outline realistic goals and timelines. Update your resume, enhance your LinkedIn profile, and prepare for interviews. Plan for possible financial adjustments during the transition[1][3]. Tip: Clarity fuels purpose. Document your goal in a journal or creative space. Revisit it when unsure of your next step—it will be your compass. Step 2: Educate Yourself Sustainability is a journey, and learning is key. Explore reputable resources, certifications, and innovations in ethical fashion today. Your everyday clothes are the perfect place to start when exploring slow fashion. AND it also supports the economy of the makers behind the brands. Luciee "Inspired by long summer evenings the Chloe Maxi Dress loosely suits the body frame and has a soft hand feel. This dress is a perfect head-to-toe look." Celebrating Luciee-Timeless Style with a Conscience Planetary devastation occurs in a world where fast fashion cycles through countless collections yearly, often leaving mountains of discarded textiles in their wake. Enter Luciee , a woman-led, sustainable fashion brand crafting elegant, purposeful clothing from natural materials since 2019. Each piece is thoughtfully designed with clean lines, subtle textures, and minimal, feminine detailing, ensuring they transcend fleeting trends for a timeless wardrobe[1][2]. Lucien's Values But Luciee's space goes far beyond aesthetics. The brand is deeply rooted in the belief that fashion should be a force for good—both for people and the planet. By partnering with gifted artisans on the island of Bali, Luciee creates fair livelihood opportunities and fosters long-term relationships within the community. Their dedication to minimizing waste matches their unwavering commitment to ethical production; they produce only what they sell in small batches and encourage thoughtful, conscious consumption[1][2]. "An asymmetrical, one shoulder top featuring a twist detailing, and a high cut and high waistline bottom. Our Honeycomb Two Piece is constructed from a fully-lined recycled nylon spandex fabrication accented with honeycomb inspired surface texture. Slight gathering at the bust and strap that can be worn on either shoulder allows for a customizable fit". Behind the brand is Lucie, whose life story reads like a journey of resilience and reinvention. Growing up in a communist country with little access to excess or choice, she learned early on to value resourcefulness and craft her clothes. After years of working in philanthropy across Europe and Asia, she returned to her roots, launching a brand that embodies her values: minimalism, authenticity, and a deep respect for the Earth[2]. Lucie's approach flips the traditional fashion supply chain, proving that style and sustainability can and should go hand in hand. Here we explore how Luciee redefines what it means to dress with intention and how every purchase supports a more harmonious and balanced relationship with our planet[1][2]. https://www.lu-ciee.com https://www.lu-ciee.com/pages/our-philosophy How does Luciee's small batch introduction process contribute to sustainability ? Luciee's small-batch production process is a key driver of sustainability in several ways. By only making what they sell and producing in limited quantities, Luciee significantly reduces the risk of overproduction and excess inventory, minimizing textile waste that would otherwise end up in landfills[1]. This approach aligns with broader industry findings that small-batch manufacturing leads to lower resource consumption, fewer production defects, and a smaller environmental footprint [1]. Additionally, producing in small batches allows for greater control over the supply chain, supporting ethical sourcing and fair working conditions for artisans, further reinforcing the brabrand's commitment to environmental and social responsibility. https://www.getmaintainx.com/learning-center/batch-processing-vs-continuous-processing Honeycomb One Piece Specific natural materials used by Luciee in their designs Luciee's collections are crafted from "best in class natural materials". Though the brand's website, and product listings do not specify exact fabric types in every case[1][2]. However, their philosophy and industry context strongly suggest the use of widely recognized natural fibers such as: Cotton Linen Silk Hemp Bamboo These materials are valued for their breathability, durability, and biodegradability, aligning with Luciee's commitment to purposeful, sustainable design[3][4]. Luciee has also used recycled nylon spandex for swimwear, but natural fibers are emphasized for their core apparel [5][1]. To find precise fabric breakdowns for specific garments, we recommend that you check individual product details. Produce in Small Batches: Avoid overproduction by manufacturing only what you can sell, reducing waste and unsold inventory[3]. Embrace Slow, Timeless Design: Focus on creating versatile, high-quality pieces that transcend trends and encourage long-term use[4][3]. Practice Supply Chain Transparency: Build relationships with ethical suppliers and artisans, ensuring fair labor practices and traceability[1][2]. Adopt Zero-Waste Techniques: Use zero-waste pattern making and minimize fabric scraps during production[3]. Encourage Mindful Consumption: Educate customers about the value of thoughtful, long-term garment care and use[4][5]. By integrating these principles, designers can create beautiful and responsible fashion. - The Importance of Brand Purpose and How To Define Yours
What is your Fashion Brands Purpose? Part 1: How to Find Your Brand Purpose in Fashion In the world of conscious fashion, your why is more than a marketing tagline—it’s your north star. Before you design your first product or pick a color palette, it’s essential to define the deeper purpose behind your brand. A clear brand purpose not only sets you apart in a crowded market but also builds customer trust and loyalty by connecting on a deeper, more meaningful level [1][2][3] . what will be your brands values? Start with Your Values Begin by reflecting on what matters most to you. Are you passionate about sustainability, equity, transparency, or something else? Your core values should guide every decision you make, from design to sourcing to marketing. For example, brands like Everlane have built their identity around radical transparency, while Stella McCartney is known for her commitment to cruelty-free and sustainable luxury fashion [1][4] . Ask yourself: What issues in fashion do I care deeply about? What beliefs do I want my brand to embody? How do I want my customers to feel when they interact with my brand? Understand the Change You Want to Create Next, define the impact you hope to make. Are you aiming to reduce waste, support artisans, or promote slow fashion? Purpose-driven brands leverage their platform to drive positive change—whether that’s championing ethical labor, inclusivity, or environmental responsibility [1][4][5] . Consider: What problems do I want to solve in the fashion industry? Who do I want to help or inspire? What legacy do I want my brand to leave? Write your statement Write a Purpose Statement Craft a concise, memorable purpose statement that communicates the mission behind your brand. This statement should go beyond profit and clearly express your brand’s reason for being [6][7][8] . For inspiration, look at these examples: Nike: “To bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete globally.” The Body Shop: “To fight for a fairer, more beautiful world.” [7] Try this template: [Brand] _______exists to [purpose/mission] _____________inspiring [audience] to [action]. We strive to create [impact] _____________by [doing what]__________________________. [6] Check Alignment Once you have your purpose, ensure that every aspect of your business aligns with it. Your designs, suppliers, marketing, and even your customer service should reflect your core mission [1][5] . Authenticity is key—customers can spot when a brand’s actions don’t match its words. Are your materials and production methods consistent with your values? Does your branding communicate your purpose clearly? Are you partnering with suppliers and collaborators who share your mission? Evolve Over Time Your brand purpose isn’t set in stone. As you grow and learn, your mission can deepen and evolve. Stay flexible and authentic, regularly revisiting your purpose to ensure it still feels true to you and resonates with your audience [4][9] . The most successful brands are those that adapt while staying rooted in their core values. Free Brand Purpose Worksheet Conclusion Ready to define your purpose? Download our free Brand Purpose Worksheet to guide your reflections and create a statement that feels true to you. Your journey to a purposeful fashion brand starts with a single, honest question: Why do you exist? Let that answer guide every step you take. Lack of Authenticity One of the most frequent mistakes is crafting a brand purpose that isn't genuinely rooted in the company's values or actions. Brands sometimes latch onto trending social causes or buzzwords as a marketing tactic, not out of real commitment. This superficial approach, often called "purpose-washing," erodes credibility and trust when consumers realize the brand's actions don't match its words[1][2][3]. An authentic purpose must be reflected in every aspect of the business, from the supply chain to the customer experience. 2. Gaps Between Purpose and Practice (Authenticity Gaps) A disconnect between a brand's claims and how it operates can create an "authenticity gap." This happens when real policies, culture, or business decisions don't support the stated Purpose. For instance, using terms like "sustainable" without making meaningful changes in the supply chain or presenting an image of diversity that isn't backed up by diverse hiring practices can quickly damage reputation[2][3]. Regular audits and honest reflection are necessary to ensure alignment. 3. Overcomplicating or Misunderstanding Purpose Some brands forget that Purpose is simply the reason they exist—not just a lofty social mission. Overly complex or vague statements, often created in isolation from the rest of the business strategy, can confuse employees and customers. The purpose should be clear, actionable, and integrated with the company's profit goals and customer value—not just an add-on or a marketing slogan[3]. 4. Lack of Coherence Across the Organization Purpose statements often fail when not embedded into the company's culture and operations. The brand message becomes fragmented if marketing, HR, and leadership have different interpretations or priorities. A coherent purpose should guide decision-making, behavior, and communication at all levels[3][4]. 5. Insufficient Commitment and Follow-Through Defining a brand purpose is only the first step; living up to it requires ongoing commitment. Purpose statements become empty words without leadership buy-in, employee engagement, and integration into daily business practices. Brands must continually reinforce and act on their Purpose to maintain credibility and effectiveness[3][4]. 6. Using Fear-Based Messaging ("Doom-Mongering") Some brands, especially those addressing societal or environmental issues, fall into the trap of overwhelming audiences with negative statistics or dire warnings. This approach, known as 'doom-mongering,' can cause anxiety and risk aversion among customers, making them less likely to engage or buy. Purpose-driven messaging should inspire positive action, not paralyze with fear[2]. 7. Treating Purpose as a Short-Term Campaign Brand purpose should be a long-term guiding principle, not a temporary campaign or trend. When brands treat Purpose as a one-off marketing push, they miss the opportunity to build lasting loyalty and impact[1]. 8. Internal Culture Resistance A brand purpose cannot succeed if the internal culture resists change or leadership and staff are not aligned. This resistance, known as 'internal culture resistance,' can stall or undermine purpose-driven initiatives. Lack of buy-in at any level can be a significant barrier to successful brand purpose implementation [4]. By avoiding these common pitfalls and ensuring that your brand purpose is authentic, coherent, actionable, and deeply integrated into your business, you can build a brand that stands out and drives real impact. Sources: https://cavendishconsulting.com/the-edit/october-2024/the-problem-with-purpose/ https://www.articulatemarketing.com/blog/purpose-driven-branding https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/whats-going-wrong-brand-purpose-how-fix-sarah-robb https://business.trustpilot.com/blog/build-trusted-brand/5-barriers-to-adopting-brand-purpose-and-why-you-shouldnt-let-them-stand-in-your-way UN SDG's Part 3: Balancing Social Responsibility with Profit-Driven Goals in Your Brand Purpose Successfully integrating social responsibility with profit-driven goals is not just a possibility, but a potential game-changer for your brand. Here are proven strategies and examples to inspire and guide you in achieving this balance: Align Core Values with Business Strategy Ensure your brand’s core values are authentically reflected in your social responsibility initiatives and profit goals. When your CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) efforts are deeply integrated into your business model rather than treated as a separate or secondary activity, they can drive both impact and profitability[1][2][3]. For example, Patagonia’s commitment to environmental responsibility is embedded in every aspect of its operations, from product design to marketing. It has helped build a loyal customer base while driving sales[4]. What is your companies CSR? Integrate CSR into Your Business Model Make social responsibility a foundational part of your business operations. This could mean setting specific targets for charitable giving, adopting sustainable sourcing, or committing to fair labor practices[2][3][5]. Companies like Ben & Jerry’s and LEGO have successfully tied their social missions to their products, enhancing brand reputation and customer loyalty while maintaining strong financial performance[5][6]. Triple Bottom Line: From https://www.viima.com/blog/triple-bottom-line Leverage the Triple Bottom Line Adopt the “Triple Bottom Line” approach, which evaluates success based on profit, people, and planet. This holistic view encourages ethical decision-making and long-term thinking, ensuring that social and environmental considerations are weighed alongside financial outcomes[3]. Engage Stakeholders and Foster Transparency Involve employees, customers, and communities in your CSR initiatives. Regularly seek feedback, communicate your progress, and be transparent about both successes and areas for improvement. This transparency not only reassures your stakeholders but also builds confidence in your brand's commitment [1][7][3].Engaged stakeholders are not just supporters, but potential advocates for your brand. Their involvement not only amplifies your impact but also strengthens the bond between your brand and the community [7]. Innovate for Shared Value Use technology and innovation to find solutions that benefit society and your bottom line. For example, investing in renewable energy or supply chain transparency can simultaneously reduce costs and environmental impact [1]. Google’s investment in carbon-free technologies demonstrates how environmental leadership can go hand-in-hand with business growth[5]. Measure and Communicate the Impact Set clear, measurable goals for your CSR efforts and track progress. Use this data to communicate your impact to customers and stakeholders, reinforcing your commitment and building trust[7][8]. Learn from Leading Brands Brands like Patagonia, LEGO, Ben & Jerry’s, and Dr. Bronner’s have shown that social responsibility and profitability are not mutually exclusive. Their success stories illustrate that a genuine, integrated approach to CSR can drive growth, loyalty, and positive change[5][4][6]. - How to Choose an Eco-Friendly Dirndl Without Compromising Style
Written by Amanda Heard Dirndl Dirndl is the official Oktoberfest costume that has seen more than five centuries, as it was introduced between the 16th and 18th centuries. Dirndl was traditionally workwear common among the Bavarian maids due to its durability and comfort, but the global appeal made the outfit rule- be it at the German Oktoberfest or a red carpet. The primary reason that never made dirndl irrelevant was its sustainable manufacturing, making it a go-to choice for all eco advocates. The clothing industry has a huge impact on the environment, whether it’s the Bavarian fashion industry or any other in the world. It is estimated to have produced 92 million tons of waste annually, which represents 10% of the global carbon. Reducing these numbers is a shared responsibility. So you must buy eco-friendly dirndls when searching for women's Oktoberfest costumes. Choosing sustainable dirndl and lederhosen outfits help both the environment and traditional craftsmanship. But what defines a sustainable dirndl? And will it impact the style choices? You can buy eco friendly dirndls without compromising styles. All the leading Trachten brands are using sustainable practices to make these outfits. You can find many trendy options that are made of biodegradable fabrics, synthetic dyes, and sustainable production methods. Traditional Dirndl Choosing Sustainable Dirndls While Staying on Trend When we talk about eco responsibility, we think directly of the raw material of the outfit. This observation is true but not sufficient. Eco friendly dirndl is clothing whose production and life have a low environmental impact. See the checklist of things that you should look at when buying sustainable dirndls while keeping up with the new fashion trends: Support Ethical Brands To get zero waste dirndls, the brand that produces it must already be environmentally responsible. You must ask if it advocates ecological and responsible values. Does it care about the impact her production will have on the world? Is it transparent with its customers? Ensure that each action the brand takes to produce these outfits has the least impact on the environment. Eco-Responsible Materials After having done the brand analysis, now come to the material of the dress. Buy sustainable dirndls made from biodegradable materials like organic cotton, linen, hemp and Tencel. Avoid conventional cotton which requires too high a dose of pesticides and water. If you choose synthetic materials, it is better to go for those that are recycled. Recycling is a great way to avoid waste linked to production. d Eco-Friendly Dyes and Prints Sustainable dirndl fashion is about the material as well as how it is dyed and printed. Many dirndls use chemical dyes that harm the environment and may cause skin irritation. You must choose women Bavarian clothing made with low impact dyes, which minimize water pollution and are safe for the planet. Natural dyes from sources like indigo, turmeric, or madder root create rich colors and reduce environmental harm. Breathable Linings Over Synthetics The lining of a dirndl highly impacts both comfort and sustainability. Many of these outfits have synthetic linings that release heat and microplastics. To avoid this, you should go with dirndls lined with organic cotton, silk, or Tencel. This allows for better airflow and biodegradability. Lace Choose Minimalist Embellishments Intricate embellishments like sequins and plastic beads can make a dirndl a real eye catcher. But they are often made from non biodegradable materials. So you should buy traditional outfits that feature embroidery, lace, or fabric appliques for decorative elements. These alternatives add elegance and style while being more environmentally responsible. Dirndl Prefer Quality Over Quantity The best way to embrace biodegradable dirndl fashion is to prefer quality over quantity. Invest in the outfits that are long lasting instead of buying trendy cloths that wear out quickly. You may have to pay a bit higher for these pieces but they offer better value in the long run. Consider them an investment in your wardrobe and the planet. After Care for Your Dirndls Eco-friendly dirndl choices do not end with buying. You also need to care for these outfits to extend their lifespan while reducing waste. Wash dirndls less frequently, using cold water. Do not tumble dry to save energy and maintain the quality of the fabric. Learn basic skills to fix small tears or replace buttons instead of discarding damaged items. Future Trends and Designer’s Perspective in Crafting an Eco-Dirndl Sustainable dirndl dresses are getting popularity with brands using recycled materials and more dedicated to handmade production of these traditional Bavarian outfits. They are embracing circular fashion principles to create dirndls that can be easily repaired, reused, or recycled. This approach is very safe for the environment. Modern dirndl makers are also merging traditional elements with avant-grade concepts. They use contemporary fabrics like lace overlays and sequins and using conventional patterns. This combination of classic charm with innovative designs reflects a broader movement towards sustainable clothing in the future. Traditional Dirndls worn at a Celebration Make a Difference Shopping dirndls ethically does not mean you have to sacrifice style. By understanding ethical Trachten fashion, choosing sustainable fabrics, investing in timeless pieces, considering second hand choices, you can buy eco-friendly dirndls that perfectly align with your values. Proper care for your outfits and educating others about sustainability can further enhance your impact. Every small step towards sustainable fashion contributes to a healthier planet and a more ethical fashion industry. Have you attended Oktoberfest? Have you ever worn a Dirndl? - The Story of Denim: From Nîmes to Modern Sustainability
MUD Jeans Origins in Nîmes, France: The Birth of "Serge de Nîmes" Denim's story begins in the historic town of Nîmes in southern France. In the late 17th century, Nîmes was known for its strong textile traditions, and it was here that weavers developed a tough, twill-woven cotton fabric called "serge de Nîmes." The name, quite literally, means "serge from Nîmes." ( Wikipedia ) Image from Ateliers de Nimes This fabric was made using a unique weave where the weft passed under two or more warp threads, giving it a diagonal ribbing pattern that increased strength and durability—characteristics that made it highly desirable for workwear. Over time, "serge de Nîmes" was shortened and anglicized into what we now call "denim." (Hawthorn Intl) Denim in America: A Fabric for the Working Class By the mid-19th century, denim had reached the United States and was being used to produce garments for miners, railroad workers, and laborers during the Gold Rush era. Its durability made it ideal for harsh working conditions. The transformation of denim into the globally recognized garment we now call 'blue jeans' happened in 1873, when Jacob Davis, a tailor, came up with the idea of reinforcing pants with metal rivets at points of strain—like the pockets and fly. Davis lacked the funds to patent his idea, so he teamed up with Levi Strauss, a San Francisco-based dry goods merchant who supplied him with denim fabric. Together, they patented the design, and the first pair of riveted denim trousers—the 'XX' model—was born. ( Wikipedia ) From Cowboys to Counterculture Icons Denim's journey from workwear to counterculture icon demonstrates its versatility and enduring appeal. By the 1980s and '90s, designer denim hit the runways, and jeans were no longer just practical—they were fashionable. Denim Around the World As demand grew, denim production expanded globally, especially to regions like India, Pakistan, Turkey, Italy, and Japan, each adding signature craftsmanship and innovation. Japan, for example, became known for selvage denim made on traditional shuttle looms, while Italian mills led in premium stretch and fashion-forward finishes. (Vogue Business) Despite its global fame, Nîmes still holds a special place in denim history. Though large-scale denim production has moved elsewhere, the town embraces its role in shaping one of the most recognized fabrics in the world. (RFI) Denim Trends 2025 The Future of Denim: Methods to achieve Sustainability: Sustainable Denim Material Organic Cotton: Grown without harmful pesticides or GMOs, reducing soil and water pollution. Recycled Denim: Old jeans are shredded and replaced with new denim, reducing textile waste. Hemp: Naturally pest-resistant and uses far less water than cotton—plus it's biodegradable. Cleaner Dyeing & Finishing Low-impact dyes and Indigo plant-based dyes reduce chemical runoff. Waterless Dyeing, ozone washes, and laser distressing replace toxic stone-washing techniques. (Candiani Denim) Jeanologia and Tonello are leading these clean-tech innovations. Circular Manufacturing & Certifications Closed-loop systems allow water and chemicals to be recycled in factories. (Cone Denim) Certifications like GOTS, OEKO-TEX, and Fair Trade ensure better practices from seed to seam. Brands are designing jeans that are recyclable, repairable, and compostable. MUD jeans Sustainable Denim Brands to Know and Watch MUD Jeans (Netherlands): Lease-a-Jeans model + recycled denim leader. ( Wikipedia ) Nudie Jeans (Sweden): Free repairs for life + organic cotton only. Boyish Jeans (USA): Uses Tencel, recycled cotton, and no toxic finishing agents. Outland Denim (Australia): Ethical employment + clean, traceable production. Kings of Indigo (Netherlands): Organic, recycled, and a pioneer in circular fashion. Ateliers de Nimes Denim Jeans Innovations in Sustainable Denim Manufacturing: More details: Sustainable denim production is undergoing a renaissance thanks to various exciting innovations. These technologies and processes aim to reduce water use, chemical impact, energy consumption, and overall waste: ✅ Waterless & Low-Water Dyeing Indigo Foam-Dye Technology: Developed by companies like Indigo Mill Designs, this method uses foam rather than water to apply dye—saving up to 90% of water compared to traditional methods. Jeanologia's Eco G2 Ozone Technology: Uses ozone gas instead of water for finishing and fading denim, drastically cutting down on water and chemicals. ✅ Laser Finishing Laser Distressing replaces manual sanding or harsh chemical washes, enabling precision wear patterns with no labor-intensive scrubbing or toxic residue. Brands like Levi's and Outland Denim use this technology to replicate vintage fades without environmental damage. ✅ Bio-Based & Plant-Based Dyes Companies are returning to natural indigo or developing plant-derived dyes that reduce chemical runoff and toxicity in water systems. ✅ Recycled & Circular Denim Denim made from post-consumer recycled jeans is now standard, with brands like MUD Jeans using up to 40% recycled content. Some brands are experimenting with biodegradable denim, blending cotton with other natural fibers, and avoiding synthetic elements altogether. ✅ Blockchain & Traceability Tools like blockchain technology track denim from cotton field to consumer, ensuring transparency and ethical sourcing. How Different Regions Uniquely Contribute to Denim Production Each region brings its own heritage, craftsmanship, and innovation to the world of denim: 🇯🇵 Japan – Selvedge & Artisanal Craftsmanship Known for high-quality selvage denim woven on vintage shuttle looms. Towns like Okayama and Kojima are revered for their traditional techniques and slow fashion approach. 🇮🇹 Italy – Luxury and Fashion-Forward Denim Italy brings high fashion sensibility to denim, focusing on tailored cuts, sustainable stretch fabrics, and innovative dyeing. Mills like Candiani Denim are world leaders in sustainable, luxury denim production. 🇳🇱 Netherlands – Circular Economy Leadership Dutch brands like MUD Jeans and Kings of Indigo pioneered closed-loop and lease-a-jeans models. The Netherlands is a global thought leader in circular fashion systems. 🇮🇳 India – Organic Cotton & Handloom Revival India is a significant source of organic cotton, and brands are reintroducing handwoven denim using traditional looms. Innovation is blending with heritage, supporting local artisans and regenerative farming. 🇲🇽 Mexico & Latin America – Nearshore, Ethical Production Mexico has become a hub for ethical denim manufacturing, close to major markets, reducing transport emissions. Brands are leveraging clean energy factories and transparent labor practices. Long-Term Impacts of Sustainable Practices on the Fashion Industry: Sustainable denim is more than a trend—it's a gateway to reshaping the entire fashion ecosystem. Here's how: ♻️ Shift from Fast to Circular Fashion Emphasis on durability, repairability, and recyclability leads to longer product lifespans and reduced overproduction. 🌍 Environmental Preservation Reductions in water, chemical, and energy use are vital in mitigating the industry's role in climate change and water scarcity. 🛠️ Innovation-Driven Economy Brands that invest in sustainable R&D stay ahead of regulation, earn consumer trust, and create future-forward business models. 💬 Consumer Education & Behavior Shift Demand for ethical products rises as more consumers learn about sustainable practices (through certifications, transparency, and digital storytelling). 🏆 Competitive Advantage for Conscious Brands Brands that embrace sustainability are gaining loyalty from Gen Z and Millennial consumers who prioritize values over volume. Kaotic Hoody ifd: Klarice, Congratulations on winning FashioNXT's Emerging Designer 2024!!! I had so much fun talking with you backstage. Can you tell us abour you and your brand? Backstage at FashioNXT 2024 Klarice: "I have always had a passion for clothes and expressing my personality through what I wear so I guess when I sat down to think about what I would want to go to school for, apparel design was a no brainer. I graduated from OSU with a masters in Apparel design last year and have since moved to Portland. KAOTIC is something I have been working at for four years now and I would say my senior year is when my skills really started to take off. The name of my brand, KAOTIC, is a representation of who I am and the kinds of clothes that I like to create and anyone that meets me would agree, haha. Oftentimes I like thrifting my materials to find new life and ideas in what we already have. Something that quickly became the biggest part of my brand is Denim. Kaotic Skirt with Upcycled Materials The mass amount of denim that individuals toss out has made it a great inspiration for me. When you take a look at my brand and the pieces I create you will find unique uses of denim that you have probably never seen before. Being a part of FashioNXT was an incredible experience and of course winning and being able to hold the title of Portland's next emerging designer is so massive to me.
