Tips for substituting linear actuators across different brands and models
I’m trying to swap out some old Tolomatic actuators in my workshop setup with something that won’t require me to rebuild everything. I’ve got the voltage and stroke figured out, but I’m worried about mounting and control compatibility. Has anyone successfully replaced Tolomatic actuators with another brand without redesigning the whole rig? Any tips or pitfalls I should be aware of before I order replacements?

I ran into a similar situation last year and what really helped was following a How to replace a Tolomatic actuator https://www.progressiveautomations.com/pages/replacement-chart guide. I learned to check not just voltage and stroke, but also the mounting brackets, connector type, and the actuator’s feedback method. That way, the replacement fit into my existing system without needing major modifications. Taking measurements carefully and reviewing specs saved me from multiple returns and headaches.
