Inside Fashion Design: Building a Strong Fashion Industry Network and Community
A Personal Note from Britta
Over the past few years, I’ve dedicated significant time to creating posts, newsletters, designer features, industry insights, NYFW recaps, interviews, and stories about the people shaping our industry. I’ve truly enjoyed this work, especially the storytelling aspect. Highlighting designers, entrepreneurs, and innovators who are making a difference in fashion is deeply rewarding. But now my focus is Building a strong fashion design ecosystem, to support you in your design journeys.
I also value connecting people with ideas, opportunities, and resources that help them progress. As the fashion industry evolves, building a strong network and staying informed is more important than ever for designers and professionals.
Inside Fashion Design was established to empower individuals and enhance connections within our industry, a principle that continues to be one of my core values. However, recent experiences have prompted a shift in my perspective. I have realized that content alone is not sufficient to drive business growth or deliver a return on investment for the time dedicated to nurturing our fashion community.

This became clear after my recent experience at NYFW. I recently returned from New York Fashion Week, where I participated in several capacities. I co-produced the Made With Intention event, volunteered at multiple shows, attended as press, and joined the Faith & Fashion Symposium as an attendee. The week was inspiring, filled with remarkable people and meaningful conversations.
After returning home, I found myself with a wealth of content—photos, notes, designer stories, event recaps, interviews, and insights to share. I realized how much time I had devoted to creating and sharing this content, not out of obligation, but because I genuinely enjoy it. Spotlighting others and connecting people with opportunities is personally rewarding. However, as I reviewed everything from NYFW, it became clear that while content creation brings joy and connection, it has not advanced the business as needed. (I will still be sharing some stories and events!)

As a founder, I must acknowledge this reality. This reflection highlighted the difference between producing content and fulfilling the broader vision I originally set for Inside Fashion Design.
As you consider this shared vision, I invite you to reflect on which of these five ecosystem pillars would most accelerate your fashion journey. Engaging with these pillars is essential for anyone seeking to grow within the fashion industry network.
This is the guiding principle I have returned to.
• connect with each other
• access mentorship and professional guidance
• find trusted resources and service providers• share opportunities and collaborations
• build viable, ethical fashion businesses

A Personal Mindset Shift
Building something meaningful requires a different focus. Rather than chasing algorithms, I need to take deliberate, incremental steps. My goal is to create something real and lasting by shifting from producing content for its own sake to delivering genuine value for the community. To make Inside Fashion Design a sustainable, enduring platform, I must prioritize foundational work. This means stepping back from frequent social media posting and redirecting my efforts toward building the ecosystem.

Moving forward, my focus for IFD will be on strengthening the core pillars of our ecosystem:
Connection: A professional network for designers and industry experts to meet and collaborate.
Mentorship: Weekly live mentoring sessions, group discussions, Q&A, and one-on-one guidance.
Education: Courses and workshops to help fashion professionals build viable businesses, from skill-building to in-depth industry trend analysis.
Resources: A growing directory of trusted service providers and tools, with exclusive partner offers and early access to new listings for members.
Opportunity: Dedicated spaces for collaborations, job postings, and industry connections, including regular virtual networking events and curated introductions.

These are just a few of the practical benefits members can expect. After 30 years in the fashion industry, I have seen how isolating it can be. Designers often strive to build something meaningful with limited support. This is why I created Inside Fashion Design.

My goal is not only to share stories, but to build something that truly supports those doing the work. This is the legacy I aim to create.
