Define Your Big Purpose

Defining Your Big Purpose (YBP) & finding your "why" can be a deeply personal and introspective process, but here are some tips that may help you in your journey:

Our Top 6 Ways to Define Your Big Purpose & Discover Your WHY

  1. Start with self-reflection: Take some time to reflect on your values, passions, and interests. Think about what gives you a sense of purpose and fulfillment. Consider your strengths, weaknesses, and experiences that have shaped you. Journaling or talking to a trusted friend or mentor can be helpful in this process.

  2. Identify your long-term goals: Think about what you want to achieve in your life, both personally and professionally. What legacy do you want to leave behind? What impact do you want to have on the world? Having a clear vision for your future can help you identify your "why."

  3. Explore different areas: Be open to exploring different areas of interest, even if they seem unrelated to your current career or hobbies. Try new things, take courses, attend workshops or seminars, or volunteer for a cause you care about. You may discover new passions or talents that will lead you to your "why."

  4. Ask yourself "why" questions: Keep asking yourself "why" until you reach the root of your motivations. For example, if you're interested in environmental conservation, ask yourself why that matters to you. Is it because you value nature and want to protect it for future generations? Is it because you believe in social justice and want to reduce the impact of climate change on vulnerable communities? Keep digging until you find the underlying reason for your passion.

  5. Be patient and persistent: Finding your "why" is a journey, not a destination. It may take time and effort, and you may encounter setbacks and challenges along the way. Be patient with yourself and keep exploring until you find what truly motivates and inspires you

  6. Go through exercises to define and solidify: Use our workbook to guide you and to keep as an ongoing reminder & resource to review each season.

About the Book

"Conscious design is a philosophy used at the Peterman Design Firm. We use it to create brands and products that restore and sustain our planet. The Peterman Method for conscious design is the culmination of Ian’s 15+ years working in product development and Jessica’s 20 years in working as a healer and studying regenerative technologies and tools for both people and our planet. Together, we’ve written this book to lay out a culmination of our combined experiences. Our goal is to help other people start looking at the world, and design, in a more conscious way."
